Is age just a number? To some it is but to others, it may not be. Human nature is to judge people based on many things like his dressing, his conversational skills (e.g sense of humor, knowledge on world affairs etc), his educational levels, occupation and income and many more. The list just goes on. And age is just another factor to critic a person. For instance, a great conversation can end abruptly when a person reveals his true age. A true account of a young girl who decides not to befriend a man just because he is in his 30s. Too mature for her, she might say. Why is this so? Is our capability to think and rationalise depends on the age we are in? Or does it depend more on the life experiences we had so far? Hmm. i wonder sometimes too.
What is a bigger wonder is the way the society views an individual who dates someone much older she is? It is always frown upon when you see a woman dating a much younger/older man. How often is it we see the woman dating a guy 20yrs her junior? When Demi Moore is dating Aston Kutcher, it became such a stir. But, it is a norm for Donald Trump to marry the model wife of his, who is equally way to young for his age! Why is there such a disequality?
I will get those looks on faces if i am seen walking on the streets with a mature man in his 40s. And its worse if he is not local. I will be labelled as an SPG or even worse, his mistress/kept woman, only with him for money, status and an escape ticket overseas. Again, why is this so? Have we wondered that the man can be just an acquaintance/client or even a close confidant? If the man is seen with a 20yr old, he will not get those looks.Well, not as much as the woman does. To most, it is an achievement for him to still be able to have a trophy gf(someone much younger) next to him, despite his age. An ego booster. As they say,men get more distinguished and charming with age. While the women can never age with grace.Hmm.. all the double standards.
In my point of view, i would think all is fair. We judge the unknown either due to envy or fear. And change is never a favourite word in anyone's dictionary.Social upbringing has impacted our mentality and views on things, and we cannot expect the norm to be altered over night.Only time will tell.
